Program Notes

Evening Rainbow takes its title from the poem “The Evening Rainbow” by Russian poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko, who passed away in 2017. The surface details of the work are meant to evoke some of the colorful visual imagery detailed in the poem, which deals with life and mortality, but much of the music is a transformation of some of the songs that were so important to the poet’s life and performances. Evening Rainbow was made possible through funding from the Nevada Arts Council for performance by UNLV string faculty members Weiwei Le (violin), Kate Hamilton (viola), and Andrew Smith (cello).
