Program Notes

The word ‘catharsis’ is often used to describe a release of intense emotion that had previously been restrained, and is often associated with grief and tragedy. Catharsis was written during the fall of 2014, a time of particularly painful national tragedy and social injustice in both the United States and Mexico. The work was written for the Mexican ensemble Cello Alterno.
